The Squad Binocular Night Vision Goggle is lightweight, provides critical advantages on the modern battlefield

Elbit America received a five-year Indefinite Delivery/Indefinite Quantity (ID/IQ) contract from the United States Marine Corps (USMC) to continue producing the Squad Binocular Night Vision Goggle (SBNVG). The competitive contract is worth up to $500 million, with an initial delivery order for nearly $127 million. The goggles will be produced in Roanoke, Virginia. The company has delivered more than 15,000 SBNVG systems to the USMC since 2019.

The SBNVG has proven to be a game-changer in modern warfare, as it is lightweight without compromising capability. The goggles currently provide image intensification, with an enhanced clip-on thermal imager. The set-up allows Marines to operate at night, or in dark buildings and tunnels where one’s situational awareness is challenged.

The SBNVG is a helmet-mounted system that provides Marines with increased depth perception, enhanced clarity through high-performance white phosphor image intensifier tubes, a thermal-imaging capability, and more. These features, along with extra-long run times, provide Marines an added edge on the battlefield.

“No matter the light conditions or environment, Marines are tapped for challenging missions. Equipped with Elbit America’s Squad Binocular Night Vision Goggles, Marines can quickly understand their surroundings and act,” said Erik Fox, Vice President of Warfighter Systems at Elbit America.

Meprolight Limited announced on October 26, 2023, the sale of tens of thousands of its MEPRO MOR sights to a South American country.

The MEPRO MOR sights effectively address three distinct needs within a single, sophisticated product, functioning as a battery-free passive reflector sight, a visible pointer, and an invisible IR pointer. Consequently, this advanced solution yields substantial cost savings, enveloping operational and maintenance expenses that would otherwise be incurred by deploying three separate sights. Additionally, the MEPRO MOR sights enhances mission flexibility, further elevating its utility and adaptability.

The sight’s battery-free reticle system enables accurate, fast, and instinctive firing at all times without the need to power the sight; even if the sight is switched off, or has no batteries, its light-collecting, fiber-optic and a tritium capsule ensure full day and night reticle availability.

Developed based on IDF requirements, the MEPRO MOR sight is designed with a 30mm diameter lens to ensure easy and rapid target acquisition with both eyes open; it effectively supports instinctive close-range firing in urban and CQB conditions, as well as shooting at longer distances in open-terrain operations, while under harsh environmental conditions and combat stress.

The MEPRO MOR sight features a unique simultaneous zeroing mechanism for all its aiming devices. Zeroing is conveniently performed day or night while saving time and ammunition.

“The MEPRO MOR sight is a result of successful collaboration with the IDF and has been actively utilized by diverse forces globally, including India, for several years,” says Golan Kalimi, Meprolight senior vice-president of defense sales and marketing. “In this vast country, the system’s ability to endure challenging conditions, such as extreme heat and humidity, and support users in remote locations holds tremendous significance. We take immense pride in its continued operational deployment by the IDF, where it has consistently demonstrated outstanding performance in all environmental conditions. The recently secured contract with the South American state serves as further validation of the MEPRO MOR sight’s unwavering reliability, as it continues to garner trust from various armed forces across the world.”

More than 40 engines for Chinook helicopters will be supplied for South Korea

Honeywell today announced it has received an order for 41 T55-GA-714A engines to support South Korea’s procurement of new CH-47F aircraft as part of an effort to replace its older CH-47D aircraft. The order and supply of the T55 engines is managed through the office of U.S. Army Foreign Military Sales.

Honeywell’s T55 engine is a world leader in powering heavy lift helicopters. Over 1,000 CH-47 helicopters powered by T55s are operated today by militaries and civil aviation entities around the world. Honeywell’s latest T55-GA-714A engine configuration produces nearly 5,000 shaft horsepower, powering Chinook aircraft up to 170 knots even in demanding operating conditions.

“We have a longstanding relationship with South Korea, and we appreciate the opportunity to continue supporting them on their new CH-47F Block I Helicopters with our latest T55-GA-714A engine configuration,” said Dave Marinick, president, Engines and Power Systems, Honeywell Aerospace. “The latest contract to supply 41 T55 engines is a testament to South Korea’s confidence in our battle-proven engines. To date, our T55 engines have logged some 12 million hours of operation on the Boeing CH-47 and MH-47 Chinook helicopters.”

Honeywell first delivered the T55 engine to the U.S. Army in 1961 at 2,200 shaft horsepower for the CH-47A helicopter. Since then, the engine’s power has more than doubled to a 5,000-shaft horsepower class engine with ongoing development designed to increase the potential output further while improving maintainability, reliability and reducing operating costs.

Honeywell continues to evolve and improve the T55 family of engines with our development work on the T55-GA-714C. The next generation 714C engine grows to a 6,000-shaft horsepower class engine, while consuming 8% less fuel than the current T55.

Please visit Honeywell at AUSA, Booth #6841 in Halls D and E, to learn more about how we’re helping support the U.S. Army and its allies.
